Dubbo & District Family History Society Inc. will be conducting a series of training and education sessions throughout 2019 which will be open to members and the public.
Every session will cost $5 for members and $10 for non-members with each course running from 11am-12noon.
The first session will be held on Monday 25th February in the family history rooms.  The topic will be ‘Tips,tricks and pitfalls in using online family history databases’ – a look at Ancestry, Findmypast, Australian Biographical Database, British Newspapers, Trove, NSW Births, Deaths and Marriages, and more……..
This is not far away so you need to get in and book a spot with Linda Barnes on 6887 8284.
Further sessions will be held on:
Monday 25th March – Understanding historical property ownership, conditional land leases and land purchases in NSW
Monday 27th May – Using the Land & Property Records Viewer
Monday 24th June – Wills, probate and administration records
More information on these courses will be supplied closer to the dates.


Notice is given to all members that the Society will be holding the Annual General Meeting on Sunday 17th March 2019.  It will be held in the music room of the Cultural Arts Building, commencing at 2pm. Please come along and support your society


First Share Your Story for 2019 on 15th February

Welcome to 2019, the committee has hit the ground running with the first Share your Story listed for Friday 15th February.  Our first presenter for the year will be Dorothy Blake from Wellington who will share her research on “Women of Wellington” and their part in the development of Wellington and the surrounds.  The event will commence at 2pm at the Western Plains Cultural Centre, with a $4 cost to cover the cost of afternoon tea.  For catering purposes we need your RSVP by Tuesday 12th February to Lyn Smith at

Family History Room re-opening

Did you make a New Year resolution to get back to your family history research in 2019?
The Dubbo Family History rooms will be re-opening next Tuesday that is January 8th, so why not come in and get started.   Opening hours will be 1pm-4pm.


Family History Christmas Party

Members and guests are invited to attend our Christmas Party to be held on Sunday 25th November, starting at 6.30pm.  We will be holding the party in the Science Room at the Community Arts Centre, not far from our Family History Rooms.  Cost will be $25 per head which includes a two course meal and homemade punch.  Bring along your own preferred drink, if you do not want some tasty punch.  Make sure you put on your best ‘Christmas bling’ as prizes will be awarded.  For catering purposes please RSVP by Tuesday 20th November to Robyn Allan on 0477 127 700 or email her at


SHARE YOUR STORY – Friday 19th October 2018 at 2pm

Our presenter at the Share Your Story for October will be Jen Cowley.  Jen is an award winning journalist, writer,  editor and trainer.  I am sure we have all had a chuckle on reading some of her columns when she was involved in the Photo News paper.   As usual her presentation will be in the Community Arts Centre at Western Plains Cultural Centre.  This month you will have to book in with Lyn Smith, so email her at  by Tuesday 17th October.  There is a $4 cost towards refreshment, so stay on afterwards and have a chat.
