We have been advised that as from the 1st July 2019 the cost of Family History Certificates issued by the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages has increased. A certificate is deemed to be a family history certificate if the birth is over 100 years, a death is over 30 years and a marriage is over 50 years. The cost of such a certificate where you provide the registration number is now $35, while it will be $48 if you do not have the registration number. Please check the registries web site for full particulars of fee increases.

vincent’s studio photographic collection

This collection of over 14,000 negatives has finally been scanned and indexed. Although the negatives span a long period of time there are gaps in the time span, due to flood, damage in storage, and general degradation of the negatives. Negatives seem to commence in the 1940’s and it would seem that earlier works may have been destroyed when the 1955 flood went through the lower floor of the premises in Talbragar Street. An index to all photographs scanned is available in the family history rooms, which is free for members and visitors to peruse. If you find a name in the index you can then arrange to check in the photographic collection before purchasing. To do this you will need to attend in person, when we have an operator available to use the system. An operator will be available every Tuesday between 1pm and 4pm , as well as the first and third Friday of each month between 10am and 1pm. If you are happy to order copies without looking at the actual photograph you should complete the Order Form and leave it with the appropriate amount of money ($5 for each copy, which includes the administration fee). Please ensure you complete all contact details on the order form. If after perusing the actual photographs you wish to purchase a copy of the photograph you must complete the Order Form and pay the appropriate amount ($5 for each copy which includes the administration fee). The photo/s can be emailed to you, or downloaded to a USB or CD, which can then be collected by you. If you wish to send us a USB to download any photos onto, there will be a $10 postage and return fee. You must supply a sealed, unused, USB stick for the operator to download the photos onto. This is to avoid the possibility of our computer receiving a virus. If you prefer, you can take a photograph of the photo, however you must still fill in the order form and there will still be a $5 administration fee for each copy.
