Closure of Family History Rooms

Due to circumstances beyond our control, namely a power outage for that day, we have to advise that the Family History rooms will be closed on Tuesday 22nd October 2019. At this stage this is the only date will be unable to open our rooms. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

Training & Education Sessions

An interesting and topical training session will be held on Monday 23rd September commencing at 11.00am. The session for September will cover ‘How DNA can open up your family history research’ The session will be presented by Lyn Smith who has first hand knowledge, after taking a DNA test. You must register for this event by contacting Linda Barnes on 6887 8284 or email martinandlinda@gmail.com The cost for members is $5 or $10 for non-members.

History week

Macquarie Regional Library will be running some courses relating to family and local history during History Week.
Workshops on ‘Treasures of Trove and Ancestry’ will be held on the 4th,5th and 7th September. In addition Local Studies Officer Simone Taylor will present a talk on the experiences of two local women’s organisations during wartime. This will be held on the 11th September. These will be free, but you must book by phoning Macquarie Regional Library on 02 6801 4510. For more information on these events place contact the library.

Another popular training/education session will be conducted on Monday 26th August for members and guests. This month will cover “following a convict’s paper trail in the UK and the colonies”. You may discover gems of knowledge concerning your ancestors once you learn how to get the best out of these records. Jo Murphy will be conducting the session, which will start at 11am. It will cost $5 for society members and $10 for non-members.

Fee for Issue of certificates from the Registry of BDM’s

We have been advised that as from the 1st July 2019 the cost of Family History Certificates issued by the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages has increased. A certificate is deemed to be a family history certificate if the birth is over 100 years, a death is over 30 years and a marriage is over 50 years. The cost of such a certificate where you provide the registration number is now $35, while it will be $48 if you do not have the registration number. Please check the registries web site for full particulars of fee increases.
