On Friday 6th December, committee members Linda Barnes, Sharon Scherrer and Colleen Braithwaite attended the council presentations of funding under the SPARC program. It was wonderful to receive $1500 from Dubbo Regional Council under this program towards the publication of our updated, expanded and revised “Early Pioneers of Dubbo – pre 1882”. The award was presented by mayor Josh Black at the Cultural Centre. This new publication can be purchased for $55 from the society rooms, or by ordering on line.

Dubbo & District Family History Society Inc will launch our new book, a revised edition of Early Pioneers of Dubbo Pre-1882 in November, close to Dubbo Day, the 175th anniversary of Dubbo’s gazettal as a village.
This is a very important addition to the early history of Dubbo. With new resources available we have been able to edit and add to our previous edition. It has been completely reset and includes new photographs and some new biographies. Huge effort has been made by the book committee to make it a fabulous edition!
You are invited to the launch, which will be held in the Auditorium at the Western Plains Cultural Centre on Friday 15 November2024 at 2.00pm. We would be delighted if you could join us for this special event. We hope that some descendants of the original pioneers in the book will also be able to attend. Just a few of the names mentioned in this updated publication are Brocklehurst, Carr, Furney, Gillis, Rorke, Samuels, Serisier and Tink.
Please advise Lyn at baretsmiths@bigpond.com before Wednesday 13th November if you would like to attend.
